Program Overview

The Rural Planning Leadership Academy and Network (R-PLAN) Program is designed specifically for Rural Planning Professionals working for Cities and Counties in our Section Area. The goal of this program is to support the professional development of rural planners. SVS APA encompasses the most geographically broad area within the California APA. We recognize the unique experiences and needs of our rural members, as well as the difficulties they may experience getting to in-person events typically held in the Sacramento core. The program will consist of 10 to 15  participants who will gather in an opening in person session; convene for five remote learning & sharing sessions focused around the rural experience; and end with an in-person event. Topics may include leadership and strength finder, fire and natural disaster resiliency, public and tribal engagement, transportation, fees, housing, legislation and other matters with a focus on the unique needs in the Section’s rural areas.

Applications

Applications are currently open, and due by August 15, 2025 at 8pm, click this link to apply RPLAN 2025/26 Application. There is a program cost of $400 and participants/employers must be prepared to cover a total of two nights lodging and travel for the two in-person sessions (one night each).  This includes 1) the program kick off scheduled for afternoon of October 15^th and morning of 16^th 2025, and 2) the final session in May 2026 (dates to be determined).
