“Definitely worth my Saturday!”
SVS-APA hosted a Planning Commissioner Training Workshop May 18 at the West Sacramento Community Center. There was a large turn-out with a great lineup! Of the 68 participants, speakers, and volunteers that attended, most were Planning Commissioners and about 1/3 of those were new. The newer commissioners clearly appreciated the presentation on Planning Commissioner Best Practices, and the group seemed to appreciate the detail of the Housing Element and the General Plan/Zoning updates as they related to both urban and rural communities. The workshop included a huge amount of information packed into 6 hours (including an overview of CEQA), and the topics were given meaning during Tim Snellings’ (Director of Development for Butte County) presentation on the Camp Fire and lessons learned related to regional planning and Wildland/Urban disasters. It was a successful event and we’ll be looking for a larger facility to host next year’s workshop.
