IMPORTANT DATES

March 26, 2021: Awards nomination submission deadline, 5PM
April 9, 2021: SVS Awards Jury deliberation, 3-5PM
April 14, 2021: SVS Award Winners notification
May 14, 2021: State Awards application deadline
July/August 2021: Awards Ceremony (TBD)

AWARD CATEGORIES

  1. State-Eligible Awards. Please refer to the California APA Awards Program Policy (2017) for State-Eligible Awards Criteria and their respective criteria. The SVS Awards Jury will evaluate State-Eligible Awards using these criteria.
  2. Section-Only Awards. Please refer to this informational page for Section-Only Awards Categories and their respective criteria. The SVS Board will evaluate Section-Only Awards using these criteria. The YPG Subcommittee will also participate in the evaluation of Emerging Planner Award nominations.

HOW TO APPLY

  1. Complete the online awards application form here.
  2. Prepare the following information:
    1. Summary Description. (300 words or less)
      In 300 words or less, provide a summary description of the submission. In the case of an individual, provide a one-page resume.
    2. Award Criteria. (1,000 words or less)
      In 1,000 words or less, explain how the submission specifically meets each criterion. For Emerging Planner Award nominees, include a description of where the nominee has worked, their years of experience, and what projects the nominee has contributed to and in what capacity. If applicable (but not required), include a description of the nominee’s educational background.
    3. Images. (5-10 images)
      Provide five to ten (5-10) images that illustrate how the submission meets the award criteria. Include a brief caption for each photo. Separately, please provide five to ten (5-10) high-resolution images in JPEG format (these will be used for the presentation during the Awards Ceremony). Leadership Award nominations need only to supply two to three (2-3) images of the individual nominated.

    4. Letter(s) of Support. (1-5 letters)
      Provide at least one (1) but no more than (5) one-page letters in support of the submission, OTHER THAN the nominator and/or staff/consultant. Address letters to SVS APA Awards Selection Jury.
    5. Project or Plan.
      Provide a digital copy of the project document in PDF format or as a link to a project page. In the case of an individual, provide a resume and work sample that supports the award criteria.
  3. Compile prepared information in one PDF document.
    1. Items (a) through (c) for Section-Only Awards
    2. Items (a) through (e) for State-Eligible Awards
  4. Compile individual photo files into a compressed folder (these will be used for the Awards Ceremony).

Join the 2021 SVS Awards Jury

The 2021 APA SVS Awards process has officially begun! Between now and the end of March, projects will be nominated for awards in categories such as comprehensive planning, urban design, innovation in green planning, and many more!

Now, we are looking for enthusiastic individuals willing to dedicate time to give back to our profession by serving on the 5-person 2021 APA Sacramento Valley Section Awards Jury. Jurors will review and evaluate some of the finest planning work in the Sacramento Valley region, confer with the rest of the jury, and determine the winners. Awards deliberation will be held from 3-5 PM on Friday, April 9, 2021.

If you would like to be considered to serve on this jury, please fill out this online application form. In this form, you will be asked to provide your contact information,an approximately 250-word statement of interest, and a one-page resume.
